Forwarding a cPanel email address to another inbox

cpanel-whm, email

An email forwarder sends incoming messages for one address to another destination. It can simplify monitoring an old address, but forwarding does not automatically configure replies to use the original address or guarantee delivery through another provider’s spam checks.

What you need before you begin

Confirm the source domain’s mail is delivered to this cPanel service and that you control the destination inbox. For a current cPanel-managed address, create the source email account before adding its forwarder if that account does not already exist. Decide how the local mailbox copy will be monitored and retained. Review privacy and retention needs before sending business mail to a personal account.

01 Forward a cPanel email address to another inbox

  1. Open Forwarders in cPanel and choose Add Forwarder. Select the correct domain and enter the local part of the source address.
  2. Choose Forward to Email Address and enter the complete destination carefully. Do not point two forwarders back at each other.
  3. Create the forwarder and review it in the list. When the mailbox and forwarder share the same address, mail is kept in the local mailbox as well as forwarded. Monitor that mailbox's quota and confirm that the local and destination copies arrive.
  4. Send a test from a third address so the destination provider is not simply testing delivery to itself. Inspect both the destination inbox and spam folder.
  5. To change a destination later, remove the old forwarder and create the intended replacement. Keep the transition controlled so messages do not go to an obsolete recipient.

Confirm the expected result

Use the available trace or delivery report to check the route. Test a normal reply separately if staff need to reply using the original business address.

Why does the destination reject forwarded email?

Forwarded mail can fail authentication or be rejected by the receiving provider. Check the actual bounce or delivery result rather than repeatedly recreating the rule. For reliable multi-user business mail, a mailbox or supported email platform may be more suitable than chains of forwarding addresses.
