Editing or deleting a DNS record in cPanel Zone Editor

cpanel-whm, domains-dns

Use Zone Editor to change a specific DNS record or remove one that is no longer needed. Work on the authoritative zone and preserve the original values so you can reverse an incorrect change.

What you need before you begin

Identify the record by its complete name and type, not merely a familiar value. Check dependencies such as website addresses, mail authentication, service verification and certificate validation. Record the TTL and current data before editing.

01 Edit or delete a DNS record in cPanel Zone Editor

  1. Open Zone Editor, choose Manage for the correct domain and filter by name or record type.
  2. For a correction, choose Edit beside the exact row, change the intended fields and use Save Record or the relevant save control.
  3. For removal, choose the row’s delete action and read the confirmation. Do not reset the entire zone to remove one obsolete record.
  4. Inspect the saved zone and query the authoritative DNS. Then check public resolvers and the dependent website, mail or verification workflow.
  5. Keep the original values until the change is confirmed and update any deployment documentation that depends on them.

Verify the authoritative DNS result

The authoritative answer should show the intended record state. Previously cached records can remain visible until their old TTL expires, so distinguish caching from an unsaved or wrong-provider edit.

What if a DNS edit breaks the service or never appears publicly?

If the service breaks, restore the recorded value and review why the dependency was missed. If public DNS never changes, verify the domain’s nameservers before repeating edits. A record that looks automatically generated can still be required for mail or service discovery.
