Configuring local pickup for eligible customers

wordpress

Configure the local-pickup workflow that matches your checkout and eligibility rules. WooCommerce has a zone-based legacy pickup method and a separate pickup experience for the Checkout block, with different location and tax behaviour.

01 Choose the appropriate pickup model

The zone-based method appears for addresses matching a zone that contains it. The block pickup feature can offer named collection locations without requiring a shipping address first, and it is not restricted by shipping zones. If geographical eligibility is essential, account for that difference before enabling it.

02 Set up zone-based pickup

  1. Open the intended shipping zone under WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping.
  2. Add Local pickup and set its customer-facing name, cost and tax settings.
  3. Save and test an address inside the zone and one outside it.

03 Set up pickup with Checkout blocks

  1. Confirm the assigned checkout page uses the Checkout block.
  2. Open the Local pickup settings under WooCommerce Shipping.
  3. Enable pickup, review any fee and add at least one collection location with its address and instructions.
  4. Save and test the Ship/Pickup choice and each location.

Why are there two pickup choices?

A legacy pickup method may still exist in a shipping zone while the block pickup feature is also enabled. Review both configurations and keep the intended customer experience. Do not remove a method until you have checked any payment restrictions or integrations depending on it.

Does pickup use the customer's address for tax?

The pickup models use location-based tax behaviour that differs from ordinary shipping. The legacy method generally uses the store location, while block pickup uses the selected pickup location. Confirm the correct business tax requirements separately and test the resulting calculation.

04 Verify fulfilment information

Check that the order records the selected pickup option and that customers receive clear collection instructions. Include opening hours, readiness notifications and any identification process through your supported communication workflow. A pickup selection does not automatically mean the order is ready for collection. Test mixed carts and extensions that split packages, because not every package or product may support pickup.
