Ending other WordPress login sessions

wordpress, security-ssl

End other WordPress browser sessions when you have finished using a shared device or suspect an old login should no longer remain active. Session cleanup is one part of access management and should be combined with credential review when compromise is possible.

01 Decide whether this is routine or an incident

For a forgotten logout on a trusted device, terminating other sessions may be sufficient. If a device was stolen or someone may know the password, change the password from a trusted device and review two-factor protection and recovery email access as well.

Keep your current trusted session available until you have confirmed you can sign in again. Do not begin by deleting the user account if its content and integrations still matter.

02 Use the profile control

  1. Sign in to the correct WordPress site through a trusted browser.
  2. Open your profile and find the Account Management or Sessions area.
  3. Use Log Out Everywhere Else where available and confirm the result.
  4. Test a previously open session on another device or browser, if safely accessible, to verify that it now requires authentication.

Does ending login sessions revoke application passwords too?

Application passwords and third-party access tokens are separate from ordinary browser sessions. Revoke obsolete integration credentials through their own controls. A client area login, email session and WordPress login also belong to different systems and need separate review when all may be affected.

If you share an account with another person, session termination can interrupt their work. Replace shared logins with individual users so future access decisions can target the right person.

03 Investigate unexpected access

If another session remains usable, confirm it belongs to the same WordPress account and installation. A browser may have a different account or a separate single-sign-on path. Record the observed behaviour before assuming the logout control failed.

For suspected compromise, inspect unknown administrators, application passwords and recent changes with support. Ending sessions does not remove malicious files or close a vulnerable plugin. Provide the site and relevant times without sending session cookies or authentication tokens. A complete response establishes how access occurred and verifies that the remaining accounts and code are trustworthy.
