Configuring WooCommerce store address and selling locations

wordpress

Set the store's physical address and selling locations so WooCommerce can apply your intended geographical rules. These settings influence the available customer countries and can affect shipping and tax calculations, but they do not replace a complete shipping-zone or tax setup.

01 Confirm the business choices

Use the real business location appropriate to your store configuration. Decide which countries you are prepared to sell to and which you can physically ship to. A store can sell a virtual service to a wider area than it ships physical goods, so document both decisions separately.

02 Configure the general settings

  1. Open WooCommerce > Settings > General.
  2. Enter the store address, country or region, city and postcode accurately.
  3. Choose the selling-location option and specify the permitted or excluded countries as appropriate.
  4. Set shipping locations to the intended countries, or disable shipping only if the store genuinely requires no shipping functionality.
  5. Choose how the initial customer location is determined and review the store currency.
  6. Save and test the country selectors and totals at checkout.

Does selecting a shipping country create a delivery rate?

No. Shipping zones and methods determine the available delivery choices for matching addresses. A permitted country with no applicable method may still produce a no-shipping-options message. Configure and test the actual zones before advertising delivery to that area.

Why do prices change after an address is entered?

The initial customer-location setting can provide a starting estimate for shipping or taxes. A customer's confirmed address may produce a different result. Geolocation also depends on its configured service and caching compatibility. Make the store's price and tax display clear instead of assuming the first estimate applies to every customer.

03 Verify edge cases

Test one address in each supported region and an address outside the intended sales area. Check virtual-only and mixed physical-product carts if both are sold. Review the same journey when logged out, because a saved customer address may hide a configuration problem during administrator testing. Tax obligations and eligible selling regions depend on your business circumstances; obtain the appropriate professional guidance for those decisions, then configure WooCommerce to match the confirmed requirements.
