Export a WooCommerce product CSV to review catalogue data, prepare a bulk update or transfer supported products to another store. Define the export scope and preserve the original file so it remains a trustworthy reference for later changes.

01 Choose the purpose and scope
Decide whether you need all products, selected product types, particular categories or specific columns. Include stable identifiers when the file will be used to update the same store. For a transfer to another store, plan how SKUs and parent relationships will be matched without assuming database IDs remain the same.
02 Create the export
- Open Products > All Products and choose Export.
- Select the required columns, product types and category filters shown by the exporter.
- Include custom metadata only when needed and understood; extensions may require their own supported export method.
- Generate the CSV and save it with the store name, purpose and date.
- Keep an unchanged original, then work on a separate copy if editing is required.
Does the CSV contain the image files?
Product image fields identify images, but the CSV itself is not an archive of the binary image files. A destination import may need access to the referenced URLs. Preserve the media separately when the source will become unavailable or when access restrictions prevent retrieval.
Is this a complete store backup?
No. A product export does not replace a coordinated files-and-database backup and does not capture the complete order, customer, payment and configuration history. Use the appropriate backup or data-export method for those separate purposes.
03 Check the file before sharing it
Open the CSV in a tool that preserves UTF-8 text and identifiers. Compare row counts and a sample of simple products, variable parents and variations with the store. Check whether filtering omitted products that the recipient expects. Remove unnecessary private metadata before sharing, and use a secure transfer method.
04 Document the handoff
Tell the recipient which WooCommerce export workflow produced the file and whether any extension-specific fields need special handling. Record the timezone used for scheduled values and the store currency. If the file will drive a later update, remember that stock and prices can change after export, so reconcile live business changes before re-importing it.
