Preparing a WooCommerce store before running the setup wizard

wordpress

Prepare your business and technical details before setting up WooCommerce so the wizard produces a store you can test confidently. The wizard is a starting point; payment approval, delivery rules, product accuracy and a complete checkout test still need your attention.

01 Gather the essentials

  • Your business address, store contact address and intended selling countries.
  • The currency, product types and units you will use consistently.
  • Shipping destinations, delivery methods and fulfilment arrangements for physical products.
  • A suitable payment provider account and its current requirements for your business location.
  • Product descriptions, prices, images, stock records and any required policy content.

02 Prepare WordPress

Use a supported WordPress and PHP environment, working HTTPS and a current backup. If the website already serves visitors, build the store on a protected staging copy first. Choose a compatible theme and review existing plugins before adding overlapping checkout, caching or security functionality.

03 Work through setup

  1. Install WooCommerce from its trusted distribution and open its setup flow.
  2. Enter accurate business and store details, checking each proposed optional extension before accepting it.
  3. Complete the relevant store checklist, including products, payments, shipping and tax configuration.
  4. Review the resulting settings directly under WooCommerce Settings rather than relying only on the wizard's completion indicator.
  5. Keep the store in an appropriate pre-launch state while you test the full customer journey.

Do I need every recommended extension?

No. Install a component because it solves a defined requirement and is compatible with your store. Optional services may have their own accounts, charges and geographic availability. A smaller, understood plugin set is easier to maintain than several tools providing the same function.

When is the store ready to launch?

Test a representative product through cart, address entry, shipping, tax and sandbox payment. Verify order creation, stock changes, customer emails and refund handling. Test mobile and guest behaviour as well as an administrator's view. Confirm that production gateway credentials, scheduled actions and backups are ready, then deliberately change the site's launch visibility. Keep a written list of the settings and integrations responsible for each critical business function so future troubleshooting starts from a known configuration.
