Adding a pointer domain in SiteWorx

control-panels, domains-dns

A pointer domain can direct another registered name to an existing SiteWorx website. Choose between a permanent redirect, temporary redirect and server alias according to how the browser should present the destination.

Check access and requirements

Confirm ownership of both domains, the intended target and available plan capacity. Prepare authoritative DNS and certificate coverage, and decide whether mail aliases should also be created.

01 Add a pointer domain in SiteWorx

  1. Open Hosting Features > Domains > Pointer and choose Add Pointer Domain.
  2. Enter the source domain and select the correct Points To target.
  3. Choose the pointer type deliberately: 301 for a permanent move, 302 for a temporary redirect, or Server Alias when the alternate hostname should serve the site without that explicit browser redirect.
  4. Review Create Mail Alias. Enable it only if mail to equivalent addresses at the pointer should reach the target’s mail accounts.
  5. Add the pointer, publish required external DNS and verify HTTPS for the source as well as the target. Test the browser location and a representative path.

Confirm the expected result

The alternate domain should follow the chosen redirect or alias behaviour. If mail aliases were requested, test an authorised recipient at both names.

Resolve setup problems

If the wrong site appears, check DNS and the selected target. If an alias unexpectedly redirects, the application may enforce its own canonical URL. A pointer does not automatically make an application safe to operate under multiple base URLs.

Does adding a pointer register the domain?

No. Registration and renewal remain separate. The domain must already be registered and directed to the appropriate hosting service.
